If you’ve applied for the New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa (subclass 461), there’s an important update from the Department of Home Affairs that could make managing your visa much easier.

From 23 July 2025, 461 visa applicants who lodged their application using the paper form can now import their application into ImmiAccount after receiving their application acknowledgment from the Department. This new functionality applies to both new and existing applications and offers several advantages.

What is changing?

While 461 visa applications still need to be submitted on paper, you can now digitally manage your application through ImmiAccount once it’s been acknowledged. This means you’ll be able to:

  • attach additional documents

  • update your details (such as your address or passport)

  • view correspondence from the Department

  • track the progress and status of your application

  • lodge Bridging visa applications (where applicable)

  • withdraw your application online if needed

How to import your 461 visa application into ImmiAccount

To import your paper application into your ImmiAccount, follow these steps:

  1. Create or log in to your ImmiAccount at homeaffairs.gov.au/immiaccount

  2. After receiving your acknowledgement letter, enter the following details:

    • your application ID

    • your date of birth

    • your identity document number (passport, ImmiCard or Titre de Voyage)

  3. Once imported, your application will appear in your ImmiAccount dashboard.

You can now manage your visa process more easily and securely online.

Why this matters for 461 visa holders

This change gives subclass 461 visa applicants better control and visibility over their application process. You no longer have to rely solely on post or phone calls to send documents or check status updates. If you’ve submitted a 461 visa application recently or plan to soon, setting up your ImmiAccount is now a smart and recommended step.
